Namaste. In Sanskrit, it is mentioned that for every sound, we are using some specific part of our mouth. Like when we say A, B, C, D…., what are we doing? We are using just the throat. Lips, palate is not used. When you are using the word like Dha, Na, tongue is touching our teeth. and so the sound is produced.
Om Word
The sounds like Aum, can’t be produced without the lips touching each other or closing with each other. Word Om is very interesting. When you say Oh, you are using the throat. That is the root of the tongue is being used. And then you go ahead and say ma, you are ending at the lips. Now here the entire mouth cavity is used.
It’s a complete word by itself where you are using everything in one word, Om. Hence this Om word is considered as the base of all the sound primordial sound. When you start chanting Om peacefully, you will start feeling vibration in your body. You start it. Vibration begins from your Nabhi Chakra. And then the vibration is felt in Anahata Chakra.
Then it goes to Vishuddhi Chakra and then it goes to Ajna Chakra and then it goes to absolutely your head Sahasrara. When you keep your hand over here, you will feel vibration very nicely. If you close your ears and keep your hand over here, you can feel much, much stronger vibrations also. Om is the sound of everything.
Om – universal sound
It is a universal sound. Let’s see now how to chant the mantra. What is the right way of chanting this mantra? One, you can break down this Om into three a, o, and ma. This a, o, and ma, when spoken together, it is O.
So it is a, O and Mu Oh ah, is produced from the abdominal cavity from the naval region. So what does it signifies? It signifies the creation from the void, from nothingness. O is produced from this thoracic region, which signifies the journey between life and deaths. Closing your lips signifies the end, the mo Now.
Still, highest way of chanting OM would be in silence. You are not making any sound externally. You are just being inwards. You are just watching your breath. Your mind is very much into breath and very much into the vibrations. And you will notice that when you breathe in, you are actually using uh and oh.
And when you are breathing out, you are actually using the final thing, ma. So, Om, uh, Om, uh, you are actually going to your subconscious mind and then slowly to the root of your existence. So you start understanding your very existence. You start understanding this word. Who am I? What am I? Patanjali mentions Jap, tad, artha, bhavanam.
